Tesla has made the full self-driving feature available to all vehicles in North America. The feature was previously only available to vehicles that has a safety score of 80 or higher with more than 100 miles driven on Autopilot. The feature is now available to all vehicles in North America which purchased the feature or subscribed to it via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update.

Elon Musk announced the news on twitter earlier congratulating the Autopilot/AI team for the achievement, calling it a major milestone. This is indeed a major milestone for the company as it has been working on the feature for years and has been a major selling point for the company. The feature was in beta until now and was not available to all vehicles until the recent announcement. The company plans on rolling it out to all vehicles in the coming months.

The feature which is called Full Self Driving (FSD) is a driver assistance system that allows the vehicle to drive itself both of Highway and city roads with no human intervention. Since the feature still requires a driver to monitor the progress of the vehicle, it is not considered to be a fully autonomous vehicle. Tesla uses it’s cabin camera to monitor if the driver is paying attention to the vehicle and if the driver is not paying attention, the vehicle will alert the driver and come to a stop.

With the rollout of the feature to everyone in North America, Tesla can finally realize the backed up revenue generated from the selling of FSD over the years, which is expected be have huge positive impact on the Q4 2022 results. Some analysts have estimated that the company could generate as much as $1.5 billion in revenue from the feature in the coming months.
