PepsiCo has received 36 of its 100 Tesla Semi orders, with the first delivery taking place on December 1st. The delivery was marked with a special event, as PepsiCo was the first company to order the semi when it was announced in 2017. The company plans to use the Tesla Semis in California first, before expanding to other states.
According to PepsiCo Vice President Mike O’Connell, the company expects to receive all 100 Tesla Semis by 2023. In preparation for the arrival of the electric vehicles, PepsiCo has installed four 750-kilowatt Megachargers at its Modesto and Sacramento locations. Each semi also received a $40,000 federal subsidy.
The Tesla Semis are expected to have a range of 500 miles, making them well-suited for long-distance hauls. PepsiCo’s decision to switch to electric transport is in line with its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint. The use of electric semi-trucks is expected to significantly reduce the company’s emissions and improve air quality.
Tesla is expected to ramp up production of the Tesla Semi in 2023, with the company aiming to produce 20,000 units per year. The company has also announced plans to expand its Supercharger network to include more mega chargers, which will be able to charge the Tesla Semis faster. Tesla will start delivering the Tesla Semi to other customers in 2023.
