Tesla is reportedly working on adding Dolby Atmos to some of the existing cars and all the new vehicles to be produced. A recent article from bgr claims that the EV manufacturer is working on adding Dolby Atmos to it’s vehicles via OTA update and been working with some of major record labels for months on the integration. The update is expected to be released in few weeks, perhaps for the upcoming holiday season in the December 2022.
This coincides with the Apple Music App integration into it’s vehicles which was recently spotted in the wild. This makes sense as it improves the already existing music experience in the vehicles which some fans say the best in the industry along with apple music. Tesla already supports Spotify and Tidal music streaming services.
The Dolby Atmos sound format is from Dolby Laboratories and is a surround sound technology that is used in cinemas and home theatres. The technology is used to create a more immersive experience for the listener.
Dolby uses height channels to intercept the sound from above and below the listener, which creates a more immersive experience. The technology is used in many of the latest movies and TV shows and uses a 7.1.4 channel configuration. The technology is also used in many of the latest video games with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
