As promised by Elon musk, Twitter will be getting end to end encryption for the Direct Messages(DMs). This has been one of the most requested features in the platform as the significance it has for news reporting from citizens to professional journalists.

A Twitter user posted a reference to what seems to a reference to signal protocol, the open sourced encryption protocol by the popular messing app Signal. The protocol has been used in other social media, chat apps for end to end encryption and considered to be one of the most secure encryption protocol in the industry.

A timeline for the feature rollout has not been given by the company or Elon, but it seems to be early days and the rollout is expected to take at least couple weeks to test it in wild and iron out the kinks that comes with it. This will be a welcome change to Twitter and shows the speed of innovation and product development under the new leadership.
