Twitter has updated the profile pictures for brands and companies to square images in an effort to protect against fake and parody verified accounts.

The social media platform recently allowed users to get a blue check mark with it’s new subscription service known as the #TwitterBlue, by verifying their account. Prior to this, Twitter updated the check mark color to gold for businesses.

These updates are part of Twitter’s efforts to improve brand safety and integrity. Square profile images make it easier to differentiate between legitimate and fake accounts, as well as parody accounts. This is especially important for companies, as fake or parody accounts can damage their reputation and credibility.

Twitter has faced criticism in the past for not doing enough to combat fake and spam accounts, as well as the spread of misinformation. The company has implemented a number of measures to address these issues, including updating its verification process and cracking down on abusive behavior and staring a war on bots and spam accounts.

Overall, Twitter’s update to square profile images for brands and companies is a positive step towards improving brand safety and integrity on the platform. It is important for companies to protect their reputation and credibility, and this update should help to mitigate the risk of fake or parody accounts.
